The appearance of a seed tells you nothing about the appearance of the plant that will emerge from that seed. The red pepper seed is white, the white cabbage seed is black, and the coriander seed looks like a passionfruit. There is no way to tell by the shape or colour of the seed what lies on the other side of its metamorphosis.
It’s also almost impossible to comprehend the beauty and scale contained within such a small and humble object. Yet the genetic instructions for the whole tree are contained within that seed – in fact the potential for an entire forest resides within that one tiny seed!
Do you keep your little seed safe and comfortable on the shelf?
Do you decorate it and try to get people to admire it?
Do you hold on to it tightly in a vain attempt to prevent harm or pain?
Who knows what God could do with you, if you simply let it go and surrendered?
“Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.”
Jesus.
