CrossWalk

Thank you so much to everyone who donated food, water, milk, bread, fresh fruit, health kits and hygiene items. We’ve met people from Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Stanthorpe and Ipswich. The Australian spirit of solidarity and generosity is amazing.

As well as our absolutely fantastic adult volunteers, we have a group of young people who have worked so hard to show love to those in need. One fine young person even chose to spend their birthday today serving the community. It’s really quite inspiring.

There has been a noticeable change in the atmosphere though. After 10 daysof operating at surge capacity people are getting tired… really tired. It’s hard not to let grief spill over into anger. It’s probably going to be more important than ever over the days and weeks ahead that we continue to stand with one another, listening and seeking to understand. There will come a time for hard questions, but for now we are simply working hard to clear debris and sit with people in their grief.

I’m still so absolutely amazed by the spirit of this town. People are truely wonderful. Generosity and selflessness seem to shine through even the most mud covered faces.

We plan to be open all this week from 10am to 4pm.

All produce donated by the community, for the community.
